Grounding
Grounding can be described in two ways; the first definition states that grounding is a practice that allows the user to pull away from unwanted flashbacks, memories, or negative and challenging emotions. The other definition states that grounding is the act of creating an energentic connection between you and the Earth. Apart from pulling the user away from harmful thoughts or emotions, grounding can make the user return to Earth after a meditation session or a spell.
Methods of Grounding
- Placing your hands in water and noting the temperature, texture, and other physical attributes
- Using the 5-4-3-2-1 method; five things you can touch, four things you can see, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste
- Deep breathing, box breathing, circle breathing; any kind of breathing exercise, really
- Holding a piece of ice in your hand (especially if you squeeze it as hard as you can)
- Visualizing yourself growing roots into the ground and the energy of earth coming through the roots
- Doing easy math in your head, such as simple addition or counting to 100
- Thinking in categories, such as naming as many dog breeds as you can
